Adrian Sherwood and Pinch are both respected figureheads of the bass and dub scene. They operate in their own territory within different orbits of the incredibly prolific dub universe.

Adrian Sherwood, head of the highly acclaimed On-U sound label, has been in the game for more than three decades. He has contributed to the output of artists such as Depeche Mode, Nine Inch Nails and Primal Scream through his signature production skills. Sherwood is viewed as one of dub’s greatest producers and protagonists, and he always takes his productions to the experimental point where dub, and other alien-like sounds such as electronica and rare world music magically coexist.

Rob Ellis, better known as Pinch is one of dubstep’s favourite sons. Owner of the Tectonic record label, Ellis has helped define the so-called Bristol sound. Pinch supported artists such as Flying Lotus, 2562 and Skream on his Tectonic imprint, before a release with dub legend Scientist in 2010. More recently, he provided us with an outstanding Fabric Live 61, and the eponymous Pinch & Shackleton album on Honest Jon’s.

Sherwood and Pinch is a meeting of two great minds around an inexorable, shared love for dub sounds. This dub alliance reflects an impeccable attention to sonic detail and a continual experimentation with rhythm, while always pushing the boundaries of this ever-growing fantastic universe. The result of this truly exciting dub collaboration was showcased for the first time at Sonar Tokyo in April. Definitely one not to miss at the festival!

North West London producer and dj Major Notes (aka Jay O’) has been creating music for more than a decade now. He began in the early 90’s using hip hop beats which led him into other genres later on such as house, funky and bass music.

As one of the early UK house and funky producers, he contributed mightily to the scene with hits such as ‘Regular Lover,’ ‘Hooked On You,’ and ‘Friend of Mine’ – filling dance floors at some of the biggest venues in the world, including Fabric, Lovebox, Egg and Glastonbury.

Dappa MC is known as a fast talking mc who brings energy to any set he is on. Very well known in UK Garage and Funky House circles, Dappa MC collaborated with Major Notes in 2010 for the track ‘March To The Tribal,’ a tribal house/UK funky tune dedicated to the dancefloor.

Don’t miss the chance to dance on this one.

Ital Tek, born Alan Myson, is a dj, producer and label owner from Brighton. At the age of 18 he first appeared on the download label Net Lab with the ‘Terminator 2 EP,’ five tracks with samples of, and a heavy Aphex Twin influence.

In 2007, Ital Tek released ‘Blood Lines’ on Mike Paradinas Planet Mu label and ‘Deep Pools’ EP on Square Records introducing a sound that ranges from dark industrial dubstep to deep melodic electronica that would grow to become his signature.

Ital Tek’s critically acclaimed debut album ‘cYCLiCAL’ was released on Planet Mu Records in 2008. Since then, he has released two albums, ‘Midnight Colour’ from 2010, and ‘Nebula Dance’ from 2012 on the same label and they have both received the same level of acclaim.

In 2009 Myson launched his own label Atom River to release his productions. The label’s debut release was his ‘Mako EP’ from 2009. The label currently has five releases under it’s belt, and the track Spectrum Falls was chosen by techno legend Surgeon to appear on the prestigious Fabric53 mix series.

With a promising Resident Advisor podcast released in February, and his new ‘Hyper Real EP’ coming out on Civil Music, Ital Tek appears to be in top form this year, so be sure to see him perform at Strøm.

The South Yorkshire-born producer and dj Jamie Roberts (aka Blawan) is one of the most exciting techno producers in the world at the moment. His percussive beats led him to release his first EP ʻFramʼ on Hessle Audio in 2010, followed by ʻBohlaʼ in 2011, released on the legendary Belgian label R&S. Shifting from a bass oriented sound to a more percussive techno vibe similar to that of UK techno veteran Surgeon (with whom he has just released an EP under the guise Trade), Blawan stands apart from the crowd.

After his Brandy sampled breakthrough hit ‘Getting Me Down’ in 2011, Blawan returned to the top of critic polls last year with ‘Why They Hide Their Bodies Under My Garage,’ released on Joy Orbison’s Hinge Finger label. In 2012, Blawan and Pariah’s hardware-only techno project Karenn really began to evolve, while he stayed busy working on their joint label, Works The Long Nights. Adding more fuel to the fire, he also released two records with innovative techno producers The Analogue Cops as Parassela,

Blawan is definitely one of our must-see at this year’s festival.

By Klaus Boss @ Strøm

First of all, once again a big thank you to all who came by yesterday despite the rain and other odd weather occurrences .
Friday sees Strøm taking off on an even larger scale with the opening of Enghaveparken and a breathtaking line-up.
There are so much going on today that it’s hard, even for me, just to boil it down to a select few recommendations.
Anyway, here are my picks of what to do on a promising Friday.

What to check:

Detroit legends and top notch guys Octave One will be joined by DJ extraordinaire Henrik Schwarz (check his stunning DJ-Kicks contribution). This master class provides a unique opportunity to gain exclusive insight into these inspiring artists thoughts as they share personal experiences comparing and contrasting live performance versus studio productions.
There are still available seats for this masterclass – email masterclass@stromcph.dk

Audiofaktor with Bjørn Svin:
